Happy birthday, Herman Anne! (or, Ann Coulter is an insufferable, hateful bitch)
A lot of people out there think Ann Coulter is an insufferable, hateful bitch; I’m one of them.
Really, I’d like someone to explain to me why a woman who makes statements like these ought to be tolerated, let alone revered:
“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.” (source: National Review column, September 13, 2001)
Yes, because no evil has ever been perpetrated in the name of Christianity. Also, Osama bin Laden has never been the leader of a country, but our civilian leaders purposely let opportunities to capture or kill him slip by.
“If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president.” (source: New York Observer interview, October 2, 2007)
Why don’t you lead the movement to revoke the 19th Amendment? What a publicity op!
“The swing voters — I like to refer to them as the idiot voters because they don’t have set philosophical principles. You’re either a liberal or you’re a conservative if you have an IQ above a toaster.” (source: If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans)
Doesn’t take much thought to march in lockstep with either party. Talk about not having any brains.
But none of these quotes make me personally angry. She’s a blowhard who likes the sound of her own voice and the look of her hair in magazine photos and on book covers.
Where Ann Coulter goes too far in my book is her criticism of single mothers and their children.
My cousin, Herman Anne, turned 21 on Sunday. She is an amazing young woman, which is no surprise to me considering what an amazing person her mother – my aunt – is.
She is also the child of a single mother. A woman who goes to church and placed a “W ‘04″ sticker on the back of her SUV. A woman who worked her ass off to raise her daughter well.
Theirs isn’t my story to tell. But suffice it to say, I don’t accept the judgment of a woman who doesn’t even have any children on the topic of what it takes to raise them well. My aunt is the sort of parent that any child would be lucky to have. Likewise, Herman Anne herself is an example for others to follow. She’s most certainly not a criminal, nor has she spent any time on the pole.
However, I do believe she voted for Obama. Which, I suppose, serves to prove Coulter’s point in her warped estimate of what it means to raise a child well.
Happy birthday, Herman Anne. I love you.

I’m a single mother, and that’s the thing that most rubs me raw with Ann Coulter.
Also? Wasn’t she one of the ones who had no problem with the young Ms. Palin?

You left out my personal favorite quote of Ann Coulter’s, about the 9/11 widows:
“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzies. I have never seen people enjoying their husbands’ death so much.”
It’s a wonder my head doesn’t explode every time she opens her mouth. Oh, and she has an Adam’s apple. I’m just sayin’.
Happy birthday to your cousin. Sounds like her single mother did an excellent job raising her.

First things first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HERMAN ANNE!
Second things second: Ann Coulter really doesn’t bother me most of the time. People like her, like Rush Limbaugh, and the Democratic equivalents, it’s their job to be divisive and say INSANE things. It isn’t their resposibility to monitor whether or not other people take them literally, and if they honestly believe that stuff? Well, it’s freedom of speech.
The only part that bothers me is speaking ill of a sitting President. With the notable exception of the few months leading up to a presidential election, I feel very strongly that the unity of our nation is much more important than one person (or a hundred peoples’) desire to badmouth the President in office. Seriously, I don’t mind questioning and politely criticizing, but picking on their character or saying things with the intent of causing division really annoys me. When a Democrat is in office, people like Ann Coulter say all sorts of crap about the sitting president, and while I understand it’s entertainment and freedom of speech, it pissed me off when my neighbor insulted Bush during office and it pisses me off when Rush Limbaugh insults Obama now.
But outside of that, I just don’t mind.

Ann Coulter makes all of us blonde Anns look bad. She (he?) is ALL KINDS of an ass.
My favorite comeuppance was when she was a raving bitch talking to Matt Lauer on the Today Show. Cut to Kathy Griffin talking to Al Roker, who gamely tried to interview her about something else. Kathy ripped her about 10 new ones. See if you can find that video clip- very satisfying.

You can guess how I feel about Ann Coulter. Not to mention she literally stole the name [stole & trampled with her big fat lawyers] the name of her “Godless” book from my friend Drew.
And for Herman-Anne – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
