Sex(y shoes) and the city

So many heavy discussion topics lately. How about some fluff? Let’s talk shoes. And I don’t mean Crocs.

I come by my love of expensive shoes honestly. Since I can remember, my mother’s closet shelves held stacks of shoe boxes. Some were new, some were decades old, but all of them were top quality and had the price tag to prove it. She’s the original Carrie Bradshaw.

Need proof? Witness these:

They’re Marc Jacobs mice. Complete with whiskers.

My shoe collection isn’t nearly as extensive – or as expensive – as hers. But I’ll admit that I almost always buy shoes at full price, whereas I wait to buy clothes until they’re on sale. By sale time, what’s left in my shoe size isn’t all that spectacular.

Except for one afternoon in 2000.

I was walking up Third Avenue on my way home after work, window shopping. I saw a SALE sign in one window and ducked in, just for kicks.

And I found these:

Here’s a close-up:

They had one pair left, and they were my size. I couldn’t leave them.

Even at 50% off, they’re still the most expensive pair of shoes I’ve ever bought. And yet, as shoes in that echelon go, they were a bargain.
