It’s finally Mousie’s turn

Not quite a year ago, CJ threw a monumental fit at the swimming pool.

We told her she could have swimming lessons too, but she had to be toilet-trained first. She was already more than two and a half years old then – the point at which Tacy trained – but she wasn’t the least bit interested in getting rid of her diapers. As far as she was concerned, we could keep paying for those suckers until she hit kindergarten. Being pregnant and unwilling to engage in a power struggle, I didn’t push the issue.

It was when she moved up to the three year old classroom at her old day care that she was forced to start wearing underwear and making regular trips to the bathroom. She had a few accidents at first, but it wasn’t long before she was school-trained.

But again, being pregnant and not up for chasing her into the bathroom every thirty minutes, I left her in diapers at home – two days a week, all weekend long, and every night.

It was Kyle who really laid down the toilet-training gauntlet with CJ and made her stick to it. And it has finally paid off. She survived the entire road trip – all umpteen thousand miles of it – without a single accident.

While I wish she would have trained earlier – like before she turned three years old – I’m just glad that we made it. That SHE made it.

Because today, she starts swimming lessons. It’s finally Mousie’s turn.

I must include a picture of the fabulous first-grader here too. While she went without lunch on the first day, she seems to have gotten her act together and aged about ten years overnight:

How time flies.

Is it weird that I’d totally wear Tacy’s outfit? Because it’s pretty damn cute!

  2. Cara Says:

Oh my goodness, they are so cute! After a mere 10 months of diaper changing, I am so over the whole thing. The prospect of two more years is mind-numbing. Is one year too early to start potty training?

My youngest son…who will be 4 in November, four, just in case you missed it FOUR IN NOVEMBER…refuses to use the potty. He will wear wet clothes for hours and hours..until it is dripping. He just keeps peeing in them all day.

He doesn’t care. He refuses to even try. He falls limp and crazy when you try to take his clothes off and if you are silly enough to simply leave him without any clothes on in the mornings…he just pee’s everywhere…..I’m about to beat him and see if my g-ma’s way works….

My mom suggested that I spank him for wetting in his clothes…but she also suggested that I not spank him in her presence…gee mom, good idea!

Congrats on the potty! there is so much joy to be found in not having to wipe a butt for one day. It does go by much too fast tho.

Congrats on the potty! I’m hoping that Cordy will suddenly decide using the potty is a pretty cool thing. Maybe I should offer swim classes as a reward?

And wow, Tacy looks so much like you in that picture!

The Boy is day-trained (although he rarely uses the potty for #2), and we’re driving to PEI on Sunday. We were thinking that we should use pull-ups for the drive, as we can’t necessarily stop when he has to go. I’m worried that we’re taking a step backwards though. What would you recommend?
