Come sail away
I look to the sea
Reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
- Come Sail Away, Styx
What a difference a (school) year makes.

I didn’t really realize how much she’s grown until I put the two pictures side by side.
It’s been an amazing year. Six years ago, I couldn’t imagine my noisy sweet little baby ever going off to kindergarten, and now she’s headed to first grade in about six weeks.
She’s still noisy sweet, and she will always be my baby. But I don’t regret the passage of time.
I think of all that she’s accomplished already, and all that she’s got ahead of her. I may not know what she’ll pursue next, or whether or not she’ll succeed at those pursuits.
But what I do know is that she has a genuine enthusiasm for meeting new friends, taking on new challenges, and learning about the world around her. Her curiosity and confidence are more important than the grades on any report card (although I must brag that she excelled in that regard too).
I extended my heartfelt thanks to her kindergarten teacher for engendering Tacy’s love of school. I know she won’t always love school; there will be many mornings on which we’ll have to make judgment calls as to whether she’s sick or simply overacting. There have been a few tears already (tell me, how is “marshmallow” an insult?), and I know there will be more down the road. But I’m certain they will be far exceeded by beaming smiles and squeals of joy.
Congratulations, Miss Goosie. Your daddy and I are so very proud of you.

Congratulations on the first year of school! Mine is still only 2, but my best friend’s daughter just finished kindergarten too, and I can’t believe how smart she is and how much she’s changed.

Miss Goosie is so cute! Time flies so fast, I agree. As much as we can, as mommies, we take a lot of
pictures of our kids and write something about them at that certain age.
My poor memory seem to erase some bits of details. o.o Can I blame it on anesthesia?
Anyhoo,It’s a way for me to remember some of the things that I so love about my son—and one day, I’d like to
tell him, “Oh look at how much you’ve grown. You are so beautiful my son.”
I feel exactly the same way reading your entry.

Our girls in first grade, how can it be? I’m still stunned myself.
I can see the changes in Tacy — wow. I hope she has a lovely summer break.

She does look so little in that first picture! The sailing-off ceremony sounds like a great way to end the year.

Those pictures are beautiful. Comparing the two, she looks like she’s gained so much grace and wisdom. She seems older just in her eyes alone.
Geez, now I’m gonna cry at the thought of my girls growing up…
