We’ve got a routine established, but I’m hoping to change it.

Between the hours of 6am and 10pm, at least one person – usually a child, but not always – is crying.

And between the hours of 10pm and 6am, at least one person – usually two, but not always – is awake.

Also between the hours of 6am and 10pm, Tacy is talking incessantly. About something. I’m not sure what. But boy, does that girl have a lot to say.

Oh, and between the hours of 6am and 10pm, the TV is on. Too loud for my taste. It feels like we live in a trailer. A really cluttered trailer with blankets and stuffed animals and Polly Pocket paraphernalia strewn everywhere.

Finally, between the hours of 6am and 10pm, I function as the human pacifier. I have completed a surprising number of tasks while nursing, including emptying the dishwasher, heating up a cup of instant oatmeal, and compiling the Cool Mom Picks newsletter. And I’ve done laundry. Load after load after LOAD of laundry.

It gets better…it gets better…it gets better…it gets better…it gets better…

…right?

    Yes. :)

I started my kids doing their own laundry when they were about 12. That helped. Sounds like you could use a vacation, sans kids. That would help too. :)

It sounds like the girls need to go on a camping trip with Kyle. (Or maybe just lunch and a matinee…hey, Horton Hears a Who is coming out in two weeks.)

Soon it will be spring there and you can let the girls dig up the entire backyard and burn off tons of energy. My girls wear me out so I can’t imagine adding another baby to the mix!

Hang in there! It does get easier.

Hang in there, Julie-just when you think you can’t take the routine anymore, it will change. Make the girls your “helpers” as much as possible!

Oh gosh, now I’m getting scared. I hope it gets better. I’ll stayed tuned to find out if it gets better. But if it doesn’t, maybe I don’t want to know before my #3 arrives.

I just left where you are now. And, thank GOD, it does get better. I had a wonderful friend who, while I was going through all that, reminded me many times every day that it would get better. She said 9-10 weeks was the sweet spot (you think I would have remembered this from the first child but nope!). Our son will be 10 weeks on Thursday and we are definitely on the other side of bad. You’ll be there with me very soon.

  30. Veronica Mitchell Says:

It does get better. I am currently pregnant with my fourth. My ten-month-old reliably sleeps ten hours a night in the same room with her older sisters. My four-year-old and my two-year-old whine, but not constantly. Three kids is a strain, but you will get your independence back eventually. So will I.
