Snip snip
Last week, I told Kyle, “Not yet. Sorry,” not so much out of concern for the condition of my delicate female bits or my third c-section scar, but because I’m frankly a bit gun shy where it comes to birth control.
Yes, I’m nursing, but we’ve all been told repeatedly that nursing is not an effective method of birth control. A long-standing method of birth control failed me already. And while I love my obstetrician and I’m sure she tied triple-knots in those tubes of mine, I’m not yet ready to cut footloose and trust that there’s no way that sperm and egg can ever meet up again.
So I took the first step toward hedging my bets. At my post-op check last week, I asked my doctor to recommend a urologist for Kyle.
Turns out, a urology practice recently co-located with her OB/GYN practice, and she quickly called over the urologist and introduced us.
Lo and behold, this urologist was drop-dead gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. I smiled and shook her hand and told her that I knew my husband would look forward to meeting her. Then I sat down with her scheduler and made an appointment on Kyle’s behalf for a vasectomy consult.
The scheduler asked, “Do you want to make an appointment for the actual procedure?”
I chuckled. “No. I think I’ve gone far enough already just by making a consult appointment.”
After leaving the office, I pulled out my cell and dialed home.
“Hello?”
“Hey, you’ve got an appointment next Friday with a beautiful urologist. She’s going to play with your manly parts. Whaddaya say to that?”
Which was a rhetorical question, because really, what can he say?

Thank you for all of the kind words regarding my grandmother’s death. I’m grateful to have such wonderful memories of her – she was the ideal to which all grandparents ought to aspire.
In other news, do Clinton and Obama differ on the issues or in their voting records?
And has CJ found new favorite footwear to replace her beloved “monkey shoes”?

My husband got the snippy snippy done in December (and I got an IUD to add extra protection). He says, “It’s not that bad.” He was up and walking around in 24 hours. Hurt like hell. Drugs were good. Heals eventually and now it’s fine. — My brother was supposed to get the snip last year, but he cancelled his appointment at the last minute for the consult (wimp). His wife is due at the end of March. Ha.

OMG you crack me up – now that’s ballsy (pun totally intended). I must say that it was very nice of you to find a hot urologist to (hopefully) perform the procedure. Perhaps she has an equally hot assistant who can hold the ice-pack in place? Or would that be your job?

I’m totally in favor of both of us getting ‘fixed’ – hedging the bets? For sure!
Good for you on taking the initative on the consult.

Speaking from experience – make sure they put him under.
Y’know, if/when he decides to go through with it.

Frac was conceived because I was breast feeding Fric and foolishly thought I was safe.
Picture me holding a four month old and hurling a positive pregnancy stick at my husband’s head. Wasn’t pretty.
Just don’t tell him that his boys will swell up like grapefruits and go a lovely shade blue black. I still chuckle when I remember the hubs holding a bag of peas at his groin…
And I’m so sorry about your Grandmother, Julie. I wish you peace.

Mmmhmm. FireDad is scheduled for next month. I have my internal battle with it but logically know this is the right step.

Good lord, you folks are serious about birth control! Only fair after all you had to go through to have the kids though.

Under the influence of the post snip drugs my husband decided he’d bring in some logs for the fire. Yeah, next day he decided that wasn’t such a good idea.
Nice of you to find an “incentive” to go for the consult.

My hubby will be taking that step this year too, in all likelyhood. After OUR #3 arrives (who was not a surprise though).

Which do you think is worse for that procedure, a beautiful woman or a man? I’m thinking my husband would definitely choose an ugly man.

I’m thinking I wouldn’t want to run the risk of popping a boner in front of my urologist, so yeah, ugly dude would be a good thing.
(Oops, I’m sorry, can I say “boner” on your blog?)

That’s what I should have done, I should have made the appointment for my husband, instead of taking his word for it that he would get the snip after Nathan was born. Because you see how well that worked out for us. I got my tubes tied after Kaitlyn.
Do you remember when Dawn from Baleful Regard’s husband had the operation? Her posts about the “ball-icing peas” were hilarious! I’m sure Kyle will be fine.

Did you know about the low-dose birth control pill you can take while nursing? I took it and it worked great. No one told me about it the first time around, oddly. I swear I’m not spam!
