Mothering two
When Tacy was two years and one month old, Kyle and I headed to Greece for a procreation trip. Sure, we wanted to see some ancient ruins and a spectacular sunset or two, but there was a hidden agenda to this trip as well.
In typical project-manager style, I mapped everything out in advance – more [...]

Stupid is as stupid does
And the same is true for intelligence.
While I’m all for celebrating accomplishments – our own and our children’s – I find it wryly amusing that many proud parents leap to improbable conclusions. As Jill rightfully noted in Liz’s comments: “My husband and I laugh at the fact that our friends’ kids seem to have the lock on [...]

I feel pretty…oh so pretty
And I’m ever so hi-igh on glue…
No, not really. Just tequila.
NOT.
(I don’t drink tequila anymore. When I used to drink tequila, I’d come home with a new boyfriend. And that’s just not acceptable when you have a husband and kids.)
Anyway.
It’s not me who feels pretty. It’s your little girls who’ll feel pretty…when you check out [...]

Bring it! Your iPod, I mean.
Mama Tulip, who has impeccable taste in music (and I know – we’ve exchanged mix CDs), tagged me for a music meme. And since I can’t resist: 1) memes; 2) music; or 3) Mama Tulip, I present to you My Seven Favorite Songs By Depeche Mode (no more than one song from a single non-compilation [...]

I think, therefore sometimes my head hurts
Last week, I posted about something substantial – something that required forethought and concentration and a little research – and it garnered only half as many comments as a post from the day before about the condition of my closet. I actually didn’t really notice until Kyle brought it to my attention, expressing incredulity that [...]

How to lose five pounds in two hours
Cut off eight inches of split ends.
(Yeah, I know. You lose more weight when you give birth, but it usually takes longer than two hours.)

Never a bridesmaid, thank god
Two friends of mine from college got married in the spring of 1995. The bride asked me to be a bridesmaid, and then un-asked me a few months later, explaining that she wanted to ask her brother’s girlfriend instead. She offered the consolation prize of being the guest book attendant, which I turned down.
By the [...]

If the dental impressions do not fit, you must acquit
When I brought CJ back to school, I remembered to mention to her teachers that her latest game was pretending to sleep. I forgot to remind them that she still likes to lick stuff. And, when possible, take bites out of it.
Thankfully, she’s no longer biting her classmates (or her sister, or Kyle, or me…). [...]

Here comes the sun
With eight consecutive weeks of snow, it has most certainly been a long cold lonely winter here in Colorado.
Eight consecutive weeks of snow. That’s the kind of winter weather you expect in North Dakota, not Colorado.
The glacier in our (north-facing, dammit) front yard has only now completely melted. The glacier in Stacey’s driveway – which [...]

The times, they are a-changin’…
And with all due honor and respect, I’d suggest that Gen Pace come along for the ride.
General Peter Pace, USMC, is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is the highest ranking member of the United States armed forces. According to the AP article, Pace “likened homosexual acts to adultery and said the [...]
