How the other half lives

Brackenridge Hall, University of PittsburghMy second – and last – year at Pitt, my closest friends shared a suite in Brackenridge Hall.  (They had invited me to join them, but despite multiple instances of bad judgment on my part, I still knew better than to take them up on such an offer.  I’d have left school after the first semester instead of surviving to finish out the year.)

My father and I had many heated conversations that year about my academic underachievement, and in almost every discussion, he stormed, “If you spent more time at Hillman Library instead of Breckenridge, you might get better grades.”

And every time, I resisted the urge to correct him.  It’s not “BrEckenridge”, it’s “BrAckenridge”.

(Detail-oriented, for sure.  Too bad I didn’t apply such diligence to my studies.)

Breckenridge slopesWe went to Breckenridge a couple months ago, before the snow.  And now we’re heading back – not just for the day, but for the weekend.  Staying in a beautiful cabin, courtesy of Kyle’s employer.  Mingling with the beautiful people, a la Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

And I’m not taking the laptop.

It will be a relaxing break, but I’ll be back on Monday to crow about the results of Her Bad Auction.
