Do some good while being Bad

When I want to support a cause, I usually write a check.  It’s quick and easy, and it’s what charities usually say they prefer.

But I’ve only got access to my own bank account.  And I’m not hoping for any material return on my donation, other than quarterly newsletters and wall calendars.

When Kristen and I talked last week, we were inspired to take action on behalf of Her Bad Mother’s nephew Tanner, who has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.  I’ve written here before about Tanner’s condition, which figured prominently in the plot of my NaNoWriMo novel.

You may have already heard about Her Bad Auction – word started leaking out over the weekend, thanks to our extensive network of bloggers.  Today is our official launch.

Many generous people – bloggers and non-bloggers – have donated some fantastic items to be won.  All you need is a dollar and a Paypal account, and all proceeds will go directly to MD Canada.

How can you get involved?

Buy tickets.  Send your friends and family over to Her Bad Auction to buy tickets.  Write a post on your own site promoting the effort.  E-mail Kristen or me to get a button to put in your sidebar.

How can your kids get involved?

By writing letters to Tanner.  Kids love to write letters, and Tanner would love to receive letters.  Instructions are on the site.  Even if you can’t buy a ticket, surely you can spare a couple postage stamps.  Best of all, you’ll know that you’re helping a little boy feel loved.

‘Tis the season.  Let’s all take some action.  However small a gesture may be, it’s more than what was there before.

Hey, that graphic? The one HBM has on her most recent post? Can anyone do that as a button? (I sadly cannot.) I’d love to post it in my sidebar. (Maybe I can post the grpahic…I’m just not terribly savvy.)

When people come into the office with their kids promotional goods -Unicef, candy bars for marching bands, et al- they head right for the Kristin. I’m such an easy mark and you got me. I’ll pledge one Christmas in Connecticut photo album by Her Maj and I, delivered to Tanner’s mailbox just after New Year’s. Maybe he’d also like one of the four dozen rolls of wrapping paper I just bought from Cindy’s son’s peewee hockey team.
