The overwhelming exhaustion of victory
I successfully completed NaNoWriMo/NaBloPoMo.
Posting every day wasn’t as difficult as I imagined. I didn’t slack off as much as I thought I would. In the event that I was stuck for fodder, I had planned to write reviews of books I’d recently read.
Some were excellent:
Namesake
Second Glance
One-Hit Wonder
And some sucked rocks.
The Accidental Virgin
What Do You Do All Day?
Yes, [...]

Fashionable flashbacks
One of the greatest things about having two little girls is that I get to recycle all of those cute outfits.
And the coup de grace:

Culpable
Updated below with the rest of the story…
Will someone please tell me how to explain to a four year-old that even though her actions were not fraught with malice, but merely tinged with youthful negligence, it is still reasonable for her parents to be angry with her for having flooded the bathroom?
I need a tape [...]

Art imitates life
When I began drafting an outline for my NaNoWriMo novel, I didn’t have Her Bad Mother’s nephew in mind.
Nearly eight months prior to the start of NaNoWriMo, I’d read her post about Tanner. I remembered that he has a fatal disease, but what stuck with me after reading that post was the sadness I felt [...]

Jesus H. Christ, what do I have to do to get some feedback around here?
I’ve got a new post up at The Imperfect Parent, and I’m curious to hear some more thoughts on the topic – using the Lord’s name in vain.

Living down appearances
Once, while waiting outside the office building where I worked in New York, I was mistaken for a hooker. Or possibly a drug dealer. I’m not sure which.
All I know is that I was waiting for Kyle – who had rented a car on the other side of town – to come pick me up [...]

Great expectations
Why do I ask so much of someone so small? She may be scary-smart, but she’s only three four. There’s only so much I can reasonably expect from her.
And the tears she sheds when I am upset with her or disappointed in her. They break my heart and melt me into a puddle, just like [...]

I may be a Mets fan, but I’m a Yankee through and through
(Inspired by Blog Antagonist.)
I spent a total of three months “living” in the South – March through June 1996 at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Other than that brief stay in the heart of Dixie, the farthest south I ever lived was Arlington, Virginia. And until we moved to Colorado, the farthest west [...]

Here’s to our health
While I could probably name hundreds of reasons to be thankful this year, I’d like to focus on health.
First of all, my friend’s husband was discharged yesterday. Yes, you read that right. They still don’t know exactly what took him down – so hard that the chaplain was brought in – but he was off [...]

You still haven’t found what you’re looking for
But perhaps now you have.
“toilet overflowed and i left will it stop” - Go home. Wait, buy a plunger first. Then go home.
“do i tip my childcare provider at xmas?” – Yes. Generously. Remember, this person keeps your child safe and happy when you’re not there.
“how to articulate the thoughts” – You’ll need to be more [...]
