Shhhhhh…we’re hunting wabbits
Just as we found last year, there is no shortage of wildlife here in Colorado. Most of it I’ve observed out on the bike trail. But some of it appears to have hunkered down right in our backyard.
With the exception of the snake that startled me while I was weeding and our poor little birdie friend Lucy, our other backyard co-habitants have been rabbits. Or “BUH-EEEEEEEEEES!” as CJ would say.
Kyle keeps piling rocks on either side of the gaps in our fence that are small enough for the rabbits to squeeze through, but apparently these bunnies were trained by the ancient Egyptians. They are out there all night long, constructing miniature levers to move these boulders out of their way and regain entry into our apparently delectable backyard.
Earlier in the season they stayed in the front yard, gnawing at my tulips. Now that my tulips are dead and gone, they are after the squares of sod that Kyle laid in the backyard. Stupid freaking bunnies.
But we have found a way to terrorize them in return. And our terrorist’s name is CJ.
Last night she stalked a bunny for a good half hour. And the stupid bunny put up with it.
The bunny came out to eat grass. She saw it and shrieked, “BUH-EEEEEEEEEE!” Her entire body stiffened and trembled with excitement.
Then she crouched, as if to sneak up on it.
But then she straightened up again and shrieked, “BUH-EEEEEEEEEE!” as she toddled toward the rabbit, who decided he had had just about enough of this bullshit and scurried back under a bush.
CJ turned to me and forlornly inquired, “Buh-eeee?”
“The bunny was a little frightened by your exuberance, sweetie,” I replied.
Not discouraged in the least, CJ took my index finger and led me toward the bush under which the bunny was hiding. Then she parked herself on the steps up to the deck to lie in wait for the bunny.
Within less than a minute, the stupid bunny re-emerged and quietly began eating the grass again. CJ noticed immediately and began to lead me back out into the yard.
“You know what? I bet DADDY would love to see the bunny.”
She reversed course and headed for the house. Inside, she made a beeline for Kyle, grabbed HIS index finger, looked up at him and screeched, “BUH-EEEEEEEEEE!” as she pulled him back toward the door.
Finally, after she tried to persuade me to come back outside for a THIRD look at the bunny (having shown the bunny to Kyle and me, in turn, twice before), I shut and locked the door, pulled the curtain, and exclaimed, “The bunny’s ALL GONE! No more bunny!”
I can only hope the stupid freaking bunny returned the favor and left our dying sod alone for the rest of the evening.

I thought it would be a tossup on which would be cuter, the buheeee or CJ. But with the photos, I have to admit CJ wins hands down.
Kudos to you and daddy for tolerating CJs bunny fetish!!

I was ready for a CJ/Bu-heee SMACKDOWN. I guess I’m glad it didn’t happen, because CJ would have won for sure.

I can’t see photos from work, so no gushing over the cuteness just yet…
I lived in the Conejo Valley for 4 years. “Conejo” means “rabbit” en espanol. I went from thinking they were cute little fuzzballs to thinking they were demons in fur. They would pick my cherry tomatoes – but only the ripe ones! They ate pretty much everything except the stuff I hated anyway.
But I got my revenge. I got Goldie, 70 pounds of half-greyhound bunny-chasing speed. She chased them off and they never returned, except to the front yard, where they would sit outside the window, placidly chewing the plants while Goldie went insane at the front windows.

What are you having for dinner tonight?
Just kidding!!!

Good call, Mary. Next time I forget to thaw something for dinner, I’ll just send CJ outside to hunt and gather.

This might be a good reason to get a dog. A large, rabbit hunting dog. Just joking!
CJ is an adorable bunny stalker.

Wow. Another reason why CJ needs to come to our house someday. We have tons o’ buh-eeeeees.

Okay, what the hell is going on with the Bloglines feed reader? It hasn’t been telling me that LOTS of people – including you – have been writing. I just clicked on your blog name and BAM! Days of back posts that I didn’t know were there. *sigh* — Time to get reading… BUH-EEEE!!!

I’ll bet she never forgets that Buh-eee. She’s gonna talk about that buh-eee forever.

Ah ha ha, I think someone might need a stupid freaking PET bunny. Guess what she’s asking for for Christmas.

Could she stop being so cute? It makes my uterus feel very forlorn, which is entirely unfortunate considering I’m on birth control.

Check out this post for a pet “Buh-eeee!” that you won’t find in your backyard — I hope.

CJ’s adorable!! I love her squatting! We had rabbits, deers and turkeys on our lawns very often too. The turkeys looked might good on Thanksgiving, you would figure they hide on that day…but they were strutting their stuff proudly on our lawn.

CJ is so cute! She’s welcome to come visit me, we have bunnies everywhere in my neighborhood. Which is why I still haven’t planted any flowers or vegetables yet. Well, that and I’m a terrible gardener.

She is so cute. We also have a dearth of little bunnies, i think they’re more the hare variety though. A little less cute, more rodent.

your kiddo is better than eighteen frillion bunnies for the cute.
*sigh*

Is that the cutest thing? I can’t stand it.

I love this post! Your daughter is adorable and photos capture the moment beautifully. It makes miss my son’s younger years. Of course I can only fantasize about sod…just as I covet your kitchen island…but I can dream can’t I!!

Dear Lord, are we seeing the rise of the Cj’ism’s?
